Picking cucumbers today for the third day in a row, I was reminded of an article l read by a health care professional that said cucumbers have nothing in them for you. I bet he regrets that line as much as Pete Townsend's lyric " Hope I die before I get old". By nothing I'm sure he meant calories but our society has such an abundant intake of calories that it's killing us. Cucumbers have exactly what we need more of..

Water. They also contain vitamins A and C, fiber, minerals, chlorophyll and we burn calories just by chewing them..

Now that the tomatoes and peppers are ripening, and the garlic and onions are cured, it's time to start thinking about making salsa. There are lots of good " no cook " recipes on the internet which is right up my alley, and some using a blender which is cool because the others are too dicey for me. Salsa is not just for chips anymore people, lavish it on your bean burrito or baked potato too. It's health food. I put extra on my plate so I can have a few spoonfuls all by itself, and if no one's in the room I'll sometimes go " Mmmmm" ..

The capstan fires up my taste buds and opens my sinuses and even relieves pain. I don't know if it's because your attention is diverted or because your nervous system is distracted but the painlessness goes on after the burn is gone. I think we need to do more research..
