You noticed I had nothing to say about naked gardening day? That's because I have no comment. It's for girls. Geezers like their clothes. I will mention the coming of Mothers Day, because if you have a gardening Mom, she could surely use new knee pads. They wear out quickly mainly because the Velcro gets weak. She keeps re straping them every few minutes but won't throw them away because they still work..
She would also really enjoy a shade tunnel this summer. I moved mine around a lot last summer and kept lots of plants happy. A mini greenhouse is fun in the spring time to get plants growing early. My zucchini plants flourished in them, and the 3" fruit grew to 5" already after taking them off during the day time, for pollination. What she would probably enjoy most though would be a coupon from you that she could redeem for an hours worth of weeding, digging or raking..

The wind blew over the pumpkin plant and there were a bunch of sow bugs and pill bugs under it's stem. This is on the dry side of the garden. These wee beasties are getting on my nerves. They used to be just mulch eaters, digesting it and contributing to the soil fertility. Now they have morphed into nefarious night stalkers, finding tender plant stems to gnaw on, allowing the ants to suck the life out of them..
It feels like I'm battling a zombie apocalypse. I saw one solitary pillbug crossing the plastic on a mound that had only one remaining watermelon sprout left on it and thought " Oh no! Its going to come back after dark and eat it". I've got the fourth planting of cauliflower ready to transplant and am trying to figure out where to put them so the sow bugs don't get them..

My second planting of radishes came up as a solid line of little yellow BB's. I think I may have planted them too closely. I sprinkle them like I do green onions and then thin them when they are an inch tall. I used to not thin and would end up with an assortment of sizes, but now I get a uniform bunch, which is way more impressive to the cook. They are all so similar that I could enter them in the Fair, in an attempt to display my gardening prowess..
I didn't even used to thin the beets because they would all get diced before heading to the kitchen. I do now because I enjoy harvesting quality produce. Hey, we pass this way but once..
