I haven't had a gopher, mole, mouse or bird problem in the garden since we got two barn cats. There are enough bushes and shade there for them to hang out all day. One of the problems with sheet composting with un shredded garden waste is that it makes an ideal habitat for mice. I smile every time I see a cat run out with a tail hanging out of its mouth. If you raise veggies you will attract gophers so you will learn to trap them. I used the Victor traps for years and was 100% successful because I would never give up..

They can take a lot of digging though because you have to set them in the main tunnel. Cinch traps are set in the hole leading down to the tunnel and attract the rodents because of the air circulation, They get trapped trying to close the hole. You lure them to the trap instead of waiting until they pass by. Moles use gopher tunnels so you can get them too..
