I got 100 onion sets planted today. The planting diagram on the package showed you should make the holes 5"deep and 4" wide. The planting instructions said to plant them "only deep enough so that the tops of sets are covered with soil". The sets are only an inch tall so we have a big discrepancy here. The proof reader for the front of the package does not read the back..

"Not my job". I've always used a dibble to plant bulbs so I'm never going to be digging 5"x4" holes for them. I'd still be out there now..

In spite of the rain, snow and wind I got the garlic patch weeded today. It was actually a poppy patch with garlic stalks poking up every 4'. If I continue to let the poppies go to seed every year I will be faced with this chore forever. I can't seem to want to pull them up after they have gone to seed and I don't know why. I know why I don't pull up the Love in a Mist..

They form round seed pods with spikes sticking out and remind me of alien heads. As a result I have them coming up all over the garden too. I'll just call them a cover crop and let them choke out the weeds..
