I had to give up on my first planting of peas. They have been in the ground a month, and the ground along the trellis is still soggy enough to have grown algae. It's been a very wet year. We have gotten a normal years amount of rain in the last 3 months. I hope this isn't going to be the norm from now on. I planted on higher ground next to the fence, and trenched above them to drain water away..

I don't know where the time goes sometimes when I'm gardening. I can lose an hour easily, especially when the sun comes out, and the cats ( we have 3 now ) are frolicking in the bushes. I may not need bird netting this year. They go into statue mode every once in awhile over by the sheet composting along the fence, and I just know they are listening to the wee noises of mice..

I got a row of green onions and a double row of radishes planted today. The radishes were Scarlet White Tip from Lilly Miller and the instructions on the package said to plant them 2" deep. I knew that was wack so I planted them half an inch deep like I always do. I checked the internet and found another source that said to plant them an eighth of an inch deep, which is wack also..

The only seeds I plant an eighth of an inch deep are lettuce seeds, and I usually put a board over them or they will dry out between waterings. The radish package also said to plant the seeds 1" apart so you don't have to thin them. I prefer to sprinkle the seeds in the furrow just like I do onion seeds and then thin them as they grow..

I never thought I'd be glad to see a mosquito. I was today. I had to transplant out my zucchini because they were too big for the tray. I pulled the plastic back from two mounds and planted three plants per mound. I watered them with half strength fish emulsion and circled them with Deadline..

Then I cut holes in the plastic and pulled it back over the mounds, then covered the mounds with cold frames. If mosquitoes can survive these nights then my zucchini can. I also saw water striders and Buck brush blossoms. All these signs of spring make me think I can progress with the summer garden crops, but then I look at the snow on the surrounding mountains and rein myself back in..
