Taking Care of Apple Trees

The apples are abundant this year. They were scarce last year. I think they cycle their production. If we don't thin them branches will break so I start by removing any that are touching. Then I remove all the ones that are misshapen, scalded or deformed..

Then I leave only one every 8" for the first two feet of the branch and one every 4" the rest of the way. The green apples are a horse treat so they don't get wasted. Along with the cornstalks, grass and hay the four legged shredders add decomposing enzymes and pelletize it for me. I've just got to figure out a way to attach a bag to their tails..
