The raccoon came back last night with a vengeance. Three trampled plants, dug up mulch spread all around, and three piles of berry filled poop. I think the radio station switched to Johnathon Keillor's Prairie Home Companion because the raccoon was very comfortable there last night..

I'll set a trap tonight and see if I can find a recipe on line..

I didn't have any raccoon activity in the garden last night but that trap I set is pretty intimidating. I surrounded it with cinder blocks to keep him from flipping the cage over and it looks like a concrete bunker. Maybe if I mount a motion activated turret on it I could keep the turkeys out too. It may be that he has a circuit that he makes around the neighborhood and drops by intermittently. I noticed that some of the oak leaves are turning brown and it reminded me that the biggest harvest of all is coming up. Leaves..

They might just be the best mulch of all. They have all the nutrients that a plant needs right in them and they're free. I'll be storing some in plastic bags for use throughout the winter and spring instead of putting them all on at once. It's nice to have back up raw material..

Trap works. Caught our cat. She didn't mind..

She just ate the half can of cat food I was using as bait, turned around and laid down facing the door, because cats know if they lay in front of a door long enough someone will open it for them..

It's so much easier to dispatch a possum than a raccoon. You can't take them out and dump them because they will become someone else's problem. They will eventually find their way to a garbage can, cat bowl or garden. The raccoon looks like a pet with big puppy dog eyes..

He puts his paws together and acts like you're going to give him a treat. The possum on the other hand glares at you while showing yellow teeth an snarling, just daring you to get near the cage. I'm pretty sure Satan has a pet possum..
